Even though it seems as if it has become a bit calm on this page, we can assure you, that lots of stuff is happening "backstage"! The festival season has started for most of us and soon there´ll be lots of pictures and reports of various festivals.Apart from that, we´re currently re-building our entire gallery, so we excuse for any inconvenience that might cause. Right now only a few galleries are back up, but there will be more pretty soon and it will be more comfortable for you to search for your favourite bands, as the new gallery has a search function!We´re working on more changes and will reveal them, as soon as were done, stay tuned! :-)

DOCTOR MIDNIGHT & THE MERCY CULT @ DOM, Helsinki Live Review

Every time a Norwegian band steps out of the traditional and already hoary black-metal box – it becomes highly noteworthy. Yet, in case of Doctor Midnight & The Mercy Cult this wasn’t the main point of attraction. It’s the line up that caught the attention of the public in the first place. The band happens to be fronted by the legendary Hank von Helvete, whom you might have seen on stage with another magnificent Norwegian act – Turbonegro. DMTMC’s honorary axemen are: Anders Odden (Satyricon, Apoptygma Berzerk, Celtic Frost, etc.), Audun Stengel (The Kovenant, Apoptygma Berzerk), Tim Skold on bass (Marilyn Manson, KMFDM, etc.) and David Husvik (Extol) on drums.

Doctor Midnight & The Mercy Cult announced a string of live shows where the band is going to perform the new material. The first concert took place at DOM club in Helsinki on May 11. Needless to say we were there to witness this glorious event.

You might have heard about a certain magazine published in the United States called Revolver. In case you haven’t, we will fill you up. Revolver is one of the few American magazines dedicated to rock and heavy metal and it claims to be “the world’s loudest rock magazine”. Just like any respectable music publication, Revolver has its own award show called Revolver Golden Gods Awards. I am pretty sure you might have seen this mentioned all over the internet lately. Golden Gods 2011 took place on the 20th of April in Los Angeles, California, naturally.
Our partners in crime from HornsUpRocks were right there on the black carpet to share with you the highlights of the night. This includes the interviews with Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath) & Wendy Dio (the wife of late Ronny James Dio), Dino Cazares (Fear Factory), Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Damageplan, Hellyeah), Anthrax, Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed) & Shawn “Clown” Crahan (Slipknot), Machine Head. Having never played a single show during the first 15 years of their existence, for the past two years Ulver seem to have gotten acquainted with the touring routine well enough to continue with it. Ever since their first shows in Finland I’ve sworn to never write about the band again. Words don’t do their performances any justice, because in Ulver’s case you had to be there, you had to feel the music seep through your skin and whatever you may say is simply not enough. Yet one year later, on the 21st of April 2011 we found ourselves in Nosturi club again, wondering what this time was going to be like.

Thomas Gabriel Fischer also known as Tom G Warrior – an unsurpassed extreme metal stalwart who is not too fond of tooting his horn and gets visibly shy if someone else tries to do that. A truly “all-or-nothing” musician, he had gone through the downfall of his most cherished band CELTIC FROST just to arise with a new endeavour called TRIPTYKON. Tom’s musical merits are indisputable and the newly born band received critical and public acclaim upon the release of their first record Eparistera Daimones.
In this interview Fischer told us about the fall and rise of his career, his collaborations with various musicians and shed light on some of his standpoints in life.

Whoever complained, that there are no or not many festivals with good bands in Rhineland-Palatinate, should really check out the line-up of this years´ Mach1 Festival, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year.

Compared to some big Mainstream festivals, they offer a way more cosy festival experience (around 10 000 visitors) with a definitely way more Metal lineup. The headliners alone make this festival worth a visit:

Alternative rockers Yellowcard have been through quite a rollercoaster over the 10+ year span of their career: from the mind-blowing success of “Ocean Avenue” to the point when the band was forced to take an undetermined break from music. In 2011 Yellowcard come back with a new album “When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes” which is released today – 22nd of March.
“On the 22nd I will wake up and this will be the day the album comes out… but I think you sort of get lost in the grandeur of it if you start planning release parties and all this shit”, the band’s vocalist Ryan Key explained the band’s mentality of living in the present. About a month ago he had a chat with us during the band’s brief stop in Helsinki. Today, when Ryan wakes up, the beast will be unleashed. What’s to come is unknown, but we see one hell of a ride in the band’s future and no regrets left behind it.

We couldn't find a more special thing to give you on Valentine's Day than a Bullet For My Valentine interview!!

Starting from The Beatles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Maiden, Motörhead and so on, the sons of Great Britain have always been the driving force behind rock and metal music throughout history. Alas, the present generation is here to witness the near-end of those splendid times, pondering what will come next. While the US dabbles in Bieber Fever and Europe is… well, being Europe, the spawn of Perfidious Albion knows no rest. It didn’t take long for the saviour to emerge under the glorious name of Bullet For My Valentine, who has set out to “take over from Metallica and Maiden” and, dare I say, is here to bring metal back to its heyday.
After the release of their third studio album aptly named “Fever”, the band embarked on tour to bring Bullet Fever (pun intended) to the masses. During a brief stop in Norway we caught up with the quartet’s mastermind - Matthew Tuck – to talk about the music, the fans, the band and their more-metal-for-everyone ideology.

We have been told that rock’n’roll is dead probably more often than about the upcoming apocalypse. Yes, birds drop dead from the sky just like the record sales dramatically drop down, leaving the industry in dire straits. However, nobody can be proclaimed dead as long as they are still breathing. A breath of fresh air came from the Southern Hemisphere, more precisely, from Australia. This small continent had already begot the rock’n’roll juggernaut AC/DC and now it’s time for the world to succumb to their successors – Airbourne.
The constantly touring outfit visited Finland twice in 2010 and we caught up with the band’s rhythm guitarist David Roads, who told us about the recording of “No Guts. No Glory.” and the tough life on the road

EPICA: Mark Jansen Steps Into Frontwoman Shoes

Before you jump to conclusions, you should know that Epica’s guitarist Mark Jansen hasn’t decided to go drag or anything like that. As the metaphor suggests, he ended up in a situation where he merely had to try on the role of Epica’s vocalist Simone Simons. During the band’s last visit to Finland we scheduled an interview with Simone who had to pull out literally at the last moment, and who was replaced by Jansen. While we were wondering what we are supposed to do with a Simons-tailored interview, Mark assured us that he could be asked the same questions.

When the stir-causing Los Angeles metallers from Five Finger Death Punch arrived in Norway, they understood the origin of the country’s infamous cultural bastard child - black metal. “Anyone would be pissed off, if they had to live in a place this cold!” – concluded FFDP, while enduring the brass-monkey weather. However, even the Northern latitudes couldn’t affect the high spirits as the band toured Europe with their 2009 release “War Is The Answer” – once they took over the US, it was time for the rest of the world to experience the “death punch”.

Stone Sour came to Norway in November as a part of their recent European tour in support of “Audio Secrecy”. We have met with the drummer Roy Mayorga, who has contributed his drumming skills to quite an impressive roster of artists in the past and, hopefully, will continue to do so in the future. We got to discuss Stone Sour’s new album as well as various aspects that affected Roy’s life in different ways and made him the person and the musician he is today.

Rockstar Taste of Chaos in Helsinki

The Taste of Chaos tour sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink has been rattling around Europe and the States for quite a few years, offering the hardcore and metal fans an exquisite ear-candy. In 2010 TOC was replaced in the States by the Uproar Festival, which boasted a more diverse line up than what ended up coming to Europe. However, we can’t really complain as the world’s greatest festivals take place on European grounds, and our American comrades in heavy music deserve to get at least a faint taste of what the festival life is all about. Traditionally the invasion begins as Europe slowly gets in the winter mode. This time the Taste of Chaos was brought to us by Halestorm, Buckcherry, Papa Roach and Disturbed. The tour kicked off in Helsinki on 15.11.2010 and we were lucky to witness the first show.

MISFITS: The One and Only: Jerry Only

The Misfits... Perhaps until today it is the second biggest brand in music after KISS. The familiar skull grins even from messenger bags, T-shirts and mugs of today Emo kids hardly knowing about the Misfits anything but the name. At the moment the heavy weight of the Misfits brand is lifted only by Jerry, i.e.by Jerry Only, band's current singer and art-director who turned it into a family enterprise. He is the one and only left of the original Misfits line up that hit the US stage in 1977 with “Hybrid Moment” and “Return of The Fly”.

The blazing Australian quartet Airbourne came over to the cold top of Europe twice this year. Their 2nd show in Helsinki on November 13 was meant to leave Finns absolutely thunderstruck one last time before the country goes into winter hibernation. The band is loved and welcomed here, because Airbourne has brought ‘rock’ back into ‘rock’n’roll’. While this genre hasn’t produced anything new and significant during the past decade, these four Aussies kicked the door open and stormed in like a whirlwind, making it clear that ever since AC/DC people from Down Under still know how to rock.
